Monthly Business Meeting Minutes

Prior to the start of the business portion of the meeting, we welcomed Angela Guidone, the OLG Parish, Code Blue Coordinator. Angela provided the division with information regarding the Code Blue, and its mission toprovide meals and shelter for the area homeless during the winter months. Without the volunteers, Code Blue would not be able to operate. Angela will let the division know about upcoming training events and how we can get involved. For more information, please go to: https://www.co2ssh.org/. We also have information regarding Code Blue on our website. There is a tentatively scheduled volunteer training at the OLG Parish Life Center on Nov 23rd and On-line training is available at the CSSH website.

Reading of the Previous Month’s Minutes: There was no motion to approve the August meeting minutes as distributed, however there were no noted changes, corrections or amendments to those distributed minutes.

 

Proposed New Members: None

 

Communications & Correspondence: Financial Secretary Pete Glenn let us know that he completed an application for a $500.00 grant offered by AOH Nation for Divisions that provide food for the needly. AOH Div # 3 was awarded the grant due to Pete’s efforts and submitting the Grant application. Great job Pete.

 

Pete also let the division know that Dotty McGovern, wife of our late brother Greg McGovern, donated $110.00 to the division via Venmo.

Bills & Claims:

Dan O’Donnell - $262.98 for purchase of two additional taps for use at various Division fundraising events.

Jack Brady - $925.00 for purchase of food and other items for the Horseshow/Cornhole Tournament. ​

 

Report of the Standing Committee: Phil Daly – No Report

 

Special Committee Reports:

 

Membership– Ed Volrath – let us know he sat in on a National AOH Membership webinar that stressed getting “back to our base” through our respective parishes and doing more to get the community involved and letting the community know about who we are, what we do and the events we are involved in annually. Ed suggested we look for a volunteer to assist the Division in marketing our brand. Leo Craig graciously offered his assistance getting this moving.

 

Educational Pub Crawl – Derek M. – Saturday, February 1st – West Chester. Bus and Hoodies for the event will be provided.

St. Patrick’s Day Party – Jack Brady – Saturday, March 15th at The Shrine. Ticket and pricing information to follow.

St. Parick’s Day Mass – Monday, March 17th – more information to follow.

Christmas Social – No Update

 

Golf Outing – Mike Dougherty – Friday Oct 25th Heritage Creek 9 Hole $100.00 per golfer with BBQ and entertainment to follow at the Maennerchor Pavilion.

Horseshoe/Cornhole Tournament –Jack Brady – Sat Sept 14th Heritage Creek Pavilion. 12:30 start time. $45.00 per tournament. Includes food, beverage and entertainment. Bring family and friends.

Charity Mania – Jack O’Brien – let us know that as of 9/5 CharityMania ticket sales had netted the division $2380 profit. (based on a recent update from Jack, that $$$$ has increased since our meeting)

Charity Committee – Sean McArdle- Saturday, Sept 7th 8:00 am at the New Britain Giant.

Pete and Teresa Murphy Scholarship – Ed O’Dwyer – Information has been sent to the local public and catholic schools in the area.

Memorial Day Parade: – Don Foster / Bill Bryson – There will be a Memorial Day Parade – too soon to provide an update to the division.

County Business – Don Foster- Division # 3 will be hosting the Oct 24th, County Meeting. Acting in the best interests of a democratic process, VP Derek MacMillian called on the floor to vote for a venue for the County Meeting of either the Maennerchor or the OLG Parish Life Center. The floor voted 2 to 1 in favor of the Maennerchor, however, (as noted by a brother after the meeting) the venue vote was not motioned, seconded or approved so this will need to be finalized pending the decision of the Presiding Chairman of the October 3rd Business meeting.

Path Of Honor – Tom Tierny let us know the Path of Honor Ceremony will be Saturday, Sept. 7th at 1:00 pm at the American Legion Post 210, North Street, Doylestown.

 

New Business: National Convention Delegate Mark Hines let the Division know a new amendment to the application for membership to remove the “Practicing Catholic” requirement from the application was approved by a vote held at the convention. Mark explained, the purpose of this amending the application is to attract new members in the hope of re-introduction to the practices of the Catholic church. 

Mark also updated us on the Newly elected National Board.

Good and Welfare of the Order: Derek MacMillian let us know about the New Britian Civic Association Duck Race – to be held Saturday, Sept. 28th 11:00 – 3:00 pm at Covered Bridge Park, Keely Ave. $5.00 per duck. 

Irish History: Ed O’Dwyer - Great job as always, Ed O’Dwyer.

 

50/50 Drawing: won by Jack O’Brien.

 

Membership Drawing – #135 Brother Matt McGuigan – Not in attendance. $$$ Rolls over until the next meeting.
